There are 2 options for paternity testing: Private and Legal. The Private test is ideal for families who wish to determine the truth about paternity in private before deciding on the next step. The Legal test is for individuals who need to use the report in court. Both the private and legal test options are equally accurate and will provide absolutely conclusive results.
Private Testing Option
The Private Knowledge DNA Paternity Test is a premium DNA test which conclusively determines whether a male is the true biological father of a child. If you choose the private test option, a painless buccal swab (mouth swab) collection kit will be sent directly to you for sample collection in the privacy of your own home. The sample is collected by rubbing the swabs gently inside the mouth against the cheek. Testing can be peformed on children at any age, even newborns. After collection, simply send the samples back to the laboratory using the return packaging included in the kit. Results are available 1 to 3 business days from the date that the samples arrive at the laboratory.
Legal Testing Option
The Legally Admissible DNA Paternity test is accepted in courts throughout North America as legal evidence of paternity or non-paternity. If the Legal testing option is chosen, a “chain-of-custody” sample collection process is followed during sample collection to ensure proper witnessing and fingerprinting of the parties involved in the test.
Testing the Mother is Optional
If the mother knows that she is the biological mother of the child, then testing of the mother is optional. In some rare special situations such as mutations or possible fathers are relatives, testing of the mother may be recommended.

What if the individuals to be tested live at different addresses, can you split the kit?
Yes, if the individuals to be tested live in different cities, or even different countries, we can split the kit and send each component to a different address. Since the kits are individually barcoded, the samples will still be tested together even if the are sent back separately. To order a split kit, please write the following into the comments box of the online order form “Please split kit”. Please also indicate the name and address to send each component. For example, please state “send the Alleged Father’s portion to… (specify name and address)” and “send the Child’s portion to… (specify name and address).
