The HIV 4th generation test detects both the HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies and the p24 antigen, reducing the “window period” when a person can be infected but still test negative for HIV to just 18-45 days after exposure. HIV can be managed with antiretroviral therapy (ART), which can slow down the progression of the virus and prevent transmission to others.
